The pre-existing wood patio was worn and the family’s needs were changing. The house itself had been updated and they wanted the profile of the exterior to match both in quality of construction and through the quality of their interaction with the home’s outdoor space.

Key to this design was to make the addition look like a natural part of the already beautiful home, something that would look like it had always been there. The design took cues from the existing building: colours, scale, finishes and proportions were adapted into a plan that naturally extended the patio. Additional seating space was added, with positions for the BBQ and a dining table. An integrated lighting plan that took into account safety and aesthetics. Glass railings created a seamless line of vision to the surrounding environment. The louvered pergola allows quick response to changing weather, with seating around the fire pit for warmth.

The design addressed areas of wear and rot, rebuilding masonry structures and cladding for a robust and hard wearing patio space. Replacing sod, upgrading irrigation and improving waterproofing and perimeter drainage gave longevity to this renovation.

Driving by this Uplands home you would never know the patio extension had been its own renovation, the overall effect unifies the building and its surroundings. This natural extension to the home’s living space gave family and guests the freedom to flow fluidly from indoor to outdoor living all year long: the extended patio accommodating a large covered lounge area and leaving space to move between the BBQ, dining table and garden.

    In Our Client's Words

    A Job Well Done!

“From start to finish working with Flintstones was an excellent experience. From the beginning, we were impressed with the way Mike and his team approached understanding our goals for the replacement of our driveway and updating the stone facade of our home. They listened to what we wanted and helped us work through all the possibilities to create a project that fit both our aesthetic goals and the budget.

Throughout the project the team did a great job of communicating what to expect with each phase of construction, anticipating many of our questions before we could ask and promptly responding to any questions that came up along the way. The crew was fantastic, professional and polite, keeping the project moving with no wasted time and leaving the space clean and tidy at the end of every day.

Finally the attention to detail and workmanship shows in the final results. We are so happy with the quality of work and the integrity of the construction. We’ve been through a few renovations with a few different companies in the past and the work done by Flintstones is the best we’ve seen. It’s been our pleasure to recommend Flintstones to several of our friends.”
